On Wednesday Ash Class shared their work with us and their families. The topic this term has been ‘Through The Looking Glass’ and they have been writing poems about their bodies. In maths they have been looking at shapes and creating pictures with them. A trip to Dunorlan park was linked to the book Rosie’s Walk which they have been reading in class and they have made individual and a whole class map.
Thank you and well done, the school raised £397.72 for Children in Need on Friday 20th November.
The Scholastic Book Fair will be in school next week. Please come along at the end of the school day, Monday through to Thursday and support the school.
On Tuesday Chestnut class shared their work with us. They have been covering the topic of ‘Ourselves’. We saw their painted self portraits and heard some poems they had written on body parts. Chestnut class have been looking at the book ‘Dr Xargle’s Book of Earthlets’ and created their own pictures. On display were also a playground scene created with pipecleaner pupils and a model of the school ground. The children also sang and danced to ‘Brown Kids in the Ring’.
Friday was Tobago Day. The children were asked to dress in one or all of the colours of the Trinidad and Tobago flag. As a class the children moved around the school to enjoy different activities. We were delighted to have Jim from World Music Workshops who played the Steel Pans during a lively assembly. Each class had a turn at playing the Steel Pans themselves. Other activities included painting and drawing. Miss Cota showed pictures from her recent visit and there were lots of resources for children to look at. In Sycamore class the children made a fruit salad and tried a variety of different fruits.
Due to the torrential rain today we have postponed tomorrow’s work day (14th November).
Apologies to all of you who had kindly offered to help. We will let you know as soon as possible when the new date is arranged.
St James’ CE Infant School and St James’ Junior School have formed a Global School Partnership with Scarborough Methodist Primary School in Tobago. We’re confident that this will be a long-term sustainable partnership which will allow our children to take part in joint projects with the children in Tobago.
The link is fully supported by the division of Education, Youth Affairs and Sport in Tobago who funded a visit to the school by Miss Cota in October. It is also supported by DFID Global Schools Partnership programme, who we hope will fund future teacher exchange visits.
Scarborough Methodist School is located on the outskirts of the capital, Scarborough. It has almost six hundred children aged between 5 and 13 and seventeen teachers.
During her visit in October, Miss Cota spent two days in the school, meeting with the Principal and teachers and spending time in the classrooms. She met with officials from the Division of Education, Youth and Affairs who all showed great commitment to the partnership.
Tobago: Green, Clean and serene.
Miss Cota presented the children with gifts from St. James’ and here are some of the many pictures she took while in Tobago.
On Tuesday Beech Class shared their work with friends and family members. We saw some great painted self portraits and some 2D shape pictures. Year 2, who had gone on a trip to the Groombridge Sunflower Field, shared their version of ‘We’re Going On A Bear Hunt’, complete with sound effects. They had created an amazing Story Map of their adventure.
This week Sycamore Class shared their learning with the school, family and friends. We were shown their painted self portraits and clay teeth models. The children gave their version of ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ which had been adapted to include the rain that the children had endured while on the Sunflower Field Trip to Groombridge. Some amazing windcatchers were shown. These were made to show how we know the wind exists even though we cannot see it just as we know God exists even though you cannot see him.
Congratulations to Sarah Cota who was appointed Deputy Head and starts her role this term.
We have a Walk on Wednesday Challenge day on 4th of November. We have previously been lucky enough to have a class win this challenge. Good luck.
