Cedar Class Assembly

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Cedar have made a great start to this year’s Class Assemblies. Considering we have only been back for a short while the children have managed to produce a huge amount of work. We were shown their paintings of themselves, computer drawn pictures of themselves, clay mouth models, sunflower seeds that had been counted and bagged after the Sunflower Field Trip and posters they had produced for the Dentist Role Play area in the classroom. Also the children shared poems they had written about themselves. The whole class joined in the ‘Going on a Bear Hunt’ story. To finish Mrs King reproduced the bubble activity that had already taken place in class. The bubble represents God and all the people the children have around them to keep them safe and happy. Well done Cedar Class.

Field of Sunflowers

Friday, October 9th, 2009

On Wednesday 7th October all of Year 2 went to Groombridge to visit the field of Sunflowers. We had fun telling each other stories. We imagined that we had shrunk in amongst the flowers. We went on an adventurous walk, climbing over 5 bar gates and walking through nettles! We each chose a sunflower to take home. We did a ‘Bear Hunt’ through the field and even found a bear!! Hide and seek was really exciting in the the tall flowers.

After lunch we returned to school where we measured our sunflowers and even counted seeds. There were 1,338 seeds in one head! We are very grateful to the farmer who owns the field - he would welcome you at his farm shop!

Next weeks activities

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

Our theme this term is ‘Ourselves’. Reception are continuing to look at the changes in ‘Ourselves’ using baby pictures. Year 1 are concentrating on Skeletons. Year 2 are going on a field trip, quite literally, as they are going to a field of sunflowers in Groombridge to continue their story telling theme of ’shrinking’.

Thank you to everyone who sent junk modelling into Ash class, we have enough at the moment.
