Rumble in the Jungle- Rainforest special!

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

The children have had an brilliant theme week, all focused on finding out about the Rainforests of South America.

On Monday they had two special visitors-Dan Hamza-Goodacre who spoke from first-hand experience about the Rainforests and showed us some amazing photographs; and Freddie Maccha who played a selection of instruments from Brazil and encouraged the children to join in with traditional South American songs.

Tuesday the hottest day of the year so far!-half the school went to Wisley and saw plants that came from the Rainforest, explored the gardens and had lunch in the sunshine. The rest of the school had some time with Mrs. King, making enormous creatures using chicken wire and tissues, and flower mosaics with pieces of china. They also learnt South American dances with Miss Laura, and spent their money at the Cake and Book sale, organised by Mrs. Eagles and the School Council.

Wednesday Activity Day! An exhausting and enjoyable experience! The children were treated to a variety of activities including learning some Portuguese courtesy of Mrs. Sanders, Rainforest PE with Miss Marshall, making masks with Mrs. Eagles and Brazilian (non-alcoholic) cocktails with Miss Cota.

Thursday not such a hot day, but thankfully still good weather-the other half of the school went to Wisley, whilst the children at school did activities in their classroom, as well as learning South American dances with Miss Laura and spending their money at the Cake and Book sale.

Friday was the opportunity to bring it all together back in the classroom. There was sharing learning in the morning and at the end of the school day, and a special Collective worship in the hall to celebrate the week.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make this week so special.
