Website questionnaire

February 4th, 2010 by Pam Rose

A big thank you to everyone who sent back their questionnaires. We are looking to completely change the format of the website, and this may take some time. In the meantime, please bear with us if it is not updated as regularly as it could be. There were some great ideas, and we will look at the feasibility of incorporating these. Mrs Pierce is already looking at setting up a system whereby parents  can choose to receive communications by e-mail. So watch this space!

Beech Class Assembly

February 2nd, 2010 by Sue Wells

Today Beech Class shared with us all the wonderful things they have been learning. Based on the topic this term of Opposites and in particular Arctic Animals, Beech have been looking at the book ‘Penguin Small’. Taking inspiration from this we saw some lovely snowflake pictures, cylindrical penguins and clay model penguins. They shared the penguin song with us and showed the pictures they had collaborated on of the ‘Penguin Small’ characters. There were also some repeated patterns in brick or bead form. An amazing amount of work has gone on in Beech Class, thank you for sharing it with us.

Independence Day

January 29th, 2010 by Sue Wells

On Thursday 28th January the children took part in Independence Day. The children were put into mixed age groups and asked to work collaboratively and independently from adult help. They were given practical challenges. All the challenges had a link to the topic of ‘Opposites‘, in particular, ‘Arctic Animals. The children have shared the book ‘Lost and Found. The Adventures of Aniu in Alaska‘ and the tasks were linked to parts of the story. Children were Den Building using boxes and old curtains, making Festival Decorations, Creating a Fish Game and building Animal Homes. A great time was had by all.

Non-uniform Day

January 22nd, 2010 by Sue Wells

In return for a donation towards the Haiti appeal our children did not have to wear their uniform today. Each class went to the hall and put their donations on either a flag of Haiti or the map of Haiti.

Well done everyone, you raised an amazing £553.30 (count so far)

Mrs Shackleton has joined some other local Head Teachers and decided to ‘pool’ our collections and buy ‘Shelter Boxes’. For more information on this organisation visit http://www.shelterbox.org/

11.01.10 Newsletter

January 11th, 2010 by Mel Shackleton

Dear Parents,
Welcome back!  It has been a very eventful start to the term but we are pleased to have been able to open each day.
Welcome to our new entrants and their families.  It has been great to see how well the children have coped with starting school and the snow.  The snow has been very timely as we start our topic on Opposites and in particular Polar regions!
From tomorrow we will be back to normal with School Dinners so thank you very much for helping out by sending in packed lunches.
As you can see the builders have now gone and we are moved into the new rooms.  Later in the term we will have an official opening but in the meantime do pop in to see our lovely new library and parents’ room.
A full list of dates will be sent out on Friday so that you can plan ahead.
Meanwhile, keep safe in the ice.

My School Bookclub

Dear Parents
 Visit Our New School Bookclub
I’d like to tell you about our new school book club. We have started it because we think it will be an excellent way to encourage reading at home, and we hope you’ll support it enthusiastically.

It’s different because it’s an online club. You’ll find it at www.myschoolbookclub.com As soon as you arrive, you’ll find an easy-to-use site with age-coded sections packed with the best books for children. They really are the pick of the bunch - books chosen because they’re great reads for children.

You’ll discover that many books are reduced considerably in price too.

It’s not just your child who will benefit from our new club. Every time you buy books through the site, we benefit too: 20% of the value of every book you buy comes to us to help us buy more books for the school. If lots of parents participate, it could make a real difference to our school reading resources.

What’s more, some of the UK’s best-loved children’s authors, including Michael Morpurgo, are supporting this new club. What more reason do you need to give it a try?

If you have any questions or comments, please let me know.

Regards

Sarah Cota
